Characterization of subsystems in physics
Working within the framework of the propositional system formalism, we use a previous study [1 ] of the description of two independent physical systems as one big physical system to derive a characterization of a (non-interacting) physical subsystem. We discuss the classical case and the quantum case.

Unconventional resources are typically very complex to model, and the production from this type of reservoirs is influenced by such complexity in their microstructure. This microstructure complexity is normally reflected in their geophysical response, and makes them more difficult to interpret. Rock physics play an important role to resolve such complexity by integrating different subsurface di...
Subsystems and Independence in Relativistic Microscopic Physics *
The analyzability of the universe into subsystems requires a concept of the “independence” of the subsystems, of which the relativistic quantum world supports many distinct notions which either coincide or are trivial in the classical setting. The multitude of such notions and the complex relations between them will only be adumbrated here. The emphasis of the discussion is placed upon the warr...

A characterization of irreducible infeasible subsystems in flow networks
Infeasible network flow problems with supplies and demands can be characterized via violated cut-inequalities of the classical Gale-Hoffman theorem. Written as a linear program, irreducible infeasible subsystems (IISs) provide a different means of infeasibility characterization. In this article, we answer a question left open in the literature by showing a one-to-one correspondence between IISs...
